DAY 2 Discover The Country

Your second day begins at Famous Fossil Vineyard & Winery where you will meet the winemaker, view the vineyard and winery, sample distinctive Illinois wines, and find unique art, delicious cheeses and other locally produced foods.

Your next stop is Torkelson Cheese Company “World Champion” Brick and Muenster cheese as well as other cheeses are sold at factory direct prices. 

Lunch finds you among the rolling farm fields just off Highway 20 enjoying a memorable meal at The Rafters in the unique setting of a beautiful old barn. Next door hunt for treasures in The Red Barn with its wonderful blend of gifts, accessories and packaged gourmet foods, or take a walk next door and visit the Lena Brewing Company. This craft brewery features a mix of artisanal, traditional and innovative beers on site.  Taste the beer, take a brewery tour, and watch beer being made. While you’re there walk through The Mill Furnishings offering furniture and accessories.

Heading back to Freeport on Highway 20 stop at Huron Garden and Farm Market where you will find a bountiful harvest of fresh produce, jam and jellies, and homemade items.

For your last stop of the afternoon, take a coffee and pastry break at Nine East Coffee in historic downtown Freeport and then stroll the streets and explore the many antique, gift, and specialty shops in this architecturally lovely downtown area.

Begin an evening of dining and entertainment with appetizers, wine and music at the Freeport Art Museum, home to six permanent galleries offering paintings, sculptures, jewelry, ancient artifacts, and more.

Dine at Fieldstone Inn, offering casual dining at its finest. Or, available selected weekends October through March, enjoy a wonderful dessert at the Mighty Richland Players Dessert Theater where you will be treated to a great desert and a humorous story. End your day in one of Freeport’s excellent hotels.
