DAY 1 Riding The Rails
All aboard the Silver Creek and Stephenson Railroad. Your day begins with a ride on this antique steam train. Browse for novelties in the Freight House and see railroad artifacts in the Depot. Visit the Silvercreek Museum next door, offering 25 rooms of early Americana.
Proceed to the historic Victorian Oscar Taylor home at the Stephenson County Historical Museum for a guided tour. See one of the world’s largest displays of highly collectible Arcade cast iron toys, step into the Underground Railroad room, and explore the log cabin, one room schoolhouse and the arboretum.
Since you’ve built up an appetite, enjoy lunch at This Is It Eatery with its local specialties located in historic downtown Freeport. Your next stop is Little Cubs Field. Just like Wrigley, from the outfield wall ivy to the scoreboard, Little Cubs Field is a replica of Wrigley Field.
Begin your afternoon at the Fever River Railroad. For railroad aficionados and everyone else whoever enjoyed model trains, this model railroad is a 103′ by 24′ HO scale model of a hypothetical railroad running from Duluth, Minnesota to St. Louis, Missouri.
Before you settle for the night in one of Freeport’s excellent hotels, which will cater to your every need, end your day with a memorable meal at Cimino’s Little Italy. Cimino’s offers exquisite fine Italian dining.
