“America’s First Asian War: The Philippine Insurrection 1899-1902”

Date: Tuesday, February 28, 2017

February 28, “AMERICA’S FIRST ASIAN WAR: THE PHILIPPINE INSURRECTION 1899-1902”. Freeport Public Library, 100 E. Douglas Street, Freeport. 6:30 pm. Faded from popular memory today is the war the United States fought in the Philippines. After Spain ceded the Pacific island archipelago to the U.S. at the conclusion of the Spanish-American War, the U.S. fought both in pitched battles and in guerrilla skirmishes against the Filipino peoples seeking independence from foreign rule. Dr. Edward Finch views this protracted war as a harbinger of a war sixty years later in Vietnam. Part of the Lectures in American History Series sponsored by the Freeport Public Library Foundation.
