April 27, STEPHENSON COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY ANNUAL DINNER. Cimino’s Little Italy Restaurant, 421 Challenge Street, Freeport. Social Hour: 5 pm; Dinner and Program: 6 pm. The public is invited to join the Historical Society for this annual event. The featured program will be “The Mystery of Kellogg’s Grove, the Site of an Important Battle of the Black Hawk War” , presented by John Day. This presentation about the battle of Kellogg’s Grove in 1832 near the town of Kent in Stephenson County uses new information combined with practical, crime-solving detective skills, to debunk myths and tales about this historical event. He offers new evidence that may  help get us closer to the truth about where the battle really took place, and may leave us with mysteries still to solve. Reservations required by April 21. $35.
