August 18, “THE GREAT GATSBY” CHARITY FUNDRAISER. Dr. Keith and Mrs. Diane Martin Home, 2407 W. Galena Avenue, Freeport. 5:30 pm to 9 pm. Guests will be magically transported back to the Roaring Twenties as part of this fundraiser for the Highland Community College Foundation. Throughout the property and home built in 1924, attendees will mingle amongst period-era cars, flappers, and dapper gentlemen – all in the art deco/black and white/speakeasy tradition of The Great Gatsby”. The event begins with a silent auction at 5:30 pm and a live auction at 7 pm with local auctioneer Doug Munda of Munda and Associates. Food and spirits. Proceeds benefit the HCC  Foundation’s growing for tomorrow…changing lives today campaign that supports the Ray and Betty Stamm Health Science Nursing Wing and Nursing and Allied Health programs, as well as the wind turbine technology initiative, additional occupational training and educational programs, and scholarships for students. $50.
