August 13, 14TH ANNUAL LINCOLN DOUGLAS 5K AND FUN RUN. Taylor Park, 900 E. Stephenson Street, Freeport. 8 am to 10 am. A series of short distances for children begins at 8 am:  ages 8 and under – 100 yards; 9 to 10 – 200 yards; 11 to 12 – 400 yards. All finishers receive ribbons. The boy and girl winners of each age group will run a 100-yard dash following the 5K to determine “THE FASTEST KID IN TOWN!”. A One Mile Fun Run begins at 8:15 am. The course consists of one loop around the historic paved road inside Taylor Park. This is an untimed run and all finishers receive ribbons. The 5K begins at 8:35 am. November 17-February 10, 2018, 14TH ANNUAL REGIONAL JURIED EXHIBITION. Freeport Art Museum, 121 N. Harlem Avenue, Freeport. Tuesday thru Friday: 10 am to 5 pm; Saturday: Noon to 5 pm. This annual juried exhibition features recent work by contemporary artists from the tri-state region of Illinois, Wisconsin and Iowa. Created to encourage contemporary art, the show provides an opportunity for both established and emerging artists to debut their latest work. The Regional Juried Exhibition continues to build momentum each year and a wide variety of media is accepted from traditional materials such as painting and sculpture to conceptual and new techniques including video, interactive media, performance and installation art. FAM has gained the distinguished reputation of displaying a wide range of contemporary art, allowing this exhibition to become a favorite amongst visitors.
