July 26, 12TH ANNUAL PRETZEL GOLF PLAY DAY. Park Hills Golf Course, 3240 W. Stephenson Street, Freeport. 4:30 pm: Registration; 5:30 pm: Shot Gun Start. Enjoy a 9 hole “4 ball best” scramble on Park Hills’ beautiful west course (with cart). Food and beverages will be available on the course, followed by a fabulous pork chop dinner at the Clubhouse. November 13-January 23, 2016, 12TH ANNUAL REGIONAL JURIED EXHIBITION. Freeport Art Museum, 121 N. Harlem Avenue, Freeport. Tuesday thru Friday: 10 am to 5 pm; Saturday: Noon to 5 pm. This annual juried exhibition features recent work by contemporary artists from the tri-state region of Illinois, Wisconsin and Iowa. Created to encourage contemporary art, the show has grown to include over 200 submissions in a wide variety of media. This year’s exhibition was juried by Dawn Wohlford-Metallo, Visual Arts Director for Quad City Arts in Rock Island, Illinois. Opening reception on November 13, 5 pm to 8 pm. The festival will feature displays of student portraits, paintings, sculptures and clay projects from ages kindergarten through grade 12. District bands, choirs and orchestras will perform music from cultures and countries from around the world. Nearly one-third of the Freeport School District’s students will perform in some capacity. August 13, 14TH ANNUAL LINCOLN DOUGLAS 5K AND FUN RUN. Taylor Park, 900 E. Stephenson Street, Freeport. 8 am to 10 am. A series of short distances for children begins at 8 am:  ages 8 and under – 100 yards; 9 to 10 – 200 yards; 11 to 12 – 400 yards. All finishers receive ribbons. The boy and girl winners of each age group will run a 100-yard dash following the 5K to determine “THE FASTEST KID IN TOWN!”. A One Mile Fun Run begins at 8:15 am. The course consists of one loop around the historic paved road inside Taylor Park. This is an untimed run and all finishers receive ribbons. The 5K begins at 8:35 am. FAM has gained the distinguished reputation of displaying a wide range of contemporary art, allowing this exhibition to become a favorite amongst visitors.
